Munich is the capital city of Bavaria and is located on the Isar River north of the Alps. It is a popular city for students, and has a wonderful cultural scene that travelers can take full advantage of during their visits. For students interested in studying German courses in Munich there are plenty of activities to keep you busy in Munich, and lots of history to learn about, despite the fact that Munich was almost entirely destroyed during World War II. When the city was rebuilt after 1945, almost all of its original street grid was kept intact. Today, Munich is most famous for its yearly "Oktoberfest" event which takes place each fall and draws millions of visitors from around the world all looking to enjoy some delicious German beers. For students studying at a German school in Munich who want to explore more than just the Munich beer scene, there are many museums, shows, and outdoor adventures to have as well: watch a play at the residenztheater, try river-surfing, or check out the Schloss Nymphenburg palace.
