It was in 1984 when we started teaching German as a foreign language. Since then thousands of students from all over the world joined our classes and many of them returned a second and sometimes a third time.
Both of our schools are in the very center of the two most attractive German cities: Munich and Berlin. Thanks to our highly qualified teachers, the welcoming atmosphere and the modern teaching facilities we have earned a very good international reputation. In our classrooms, students from all over the world meet to learn German. Our teachers, as well as the other members of our school office team, are always available for advice. A student library and free internet access (even wireless) is at our students‘ disposal.
Our fully equipped kitchen is a popular hang-out during the breaks and enables an intensive exchange between students and teachers beyond lesson time. Here, extra-curricular activities for the evenings and weekends are planned and these often form the beginning of lasting friendships.
BWS Germanlingua is committed to offering quality German language courses to foreigners in a pleasant environment that respects the values of each participant, with the aim of strengthening communication between different linguistic communities in the world. We do not only focus on teaching the German language, but also the German culture and customs. Our staff and teachers will do their utmost to integrate every student and will always be happy to help and give advice also beyond teaching hours to make Germany your home away from home!
We believe that excellent teaching is the most essential asset to a successful school. Due to continuous further training, our qualified and experienced teachers are well acquainted with the latest developments in the area of German as a foreign language. You will note that our instructors can be seen as highly motivated, very competent and knowledgeable friends who are teaching the class. As a result, the members of our staff are not only available to discuss matters of the German language but are also happy to help you with advice on other subjects of life. A lot of times they even organize our extra-curricular activities.
The nationality and age mix at BWS Germanlingua varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 24. In the summer, the average age is 20.

Both of our schools are in the very center of the two most attractive German cities: Munich and Berlin. Since the schools are so centrally located, they are easy to reach by all public transportation means like subway, train, bus, and tramway. All kind of cafés, restaurants, and shops are directly outside the schools so that there is a lot to do and see when the school has finished or even during the coffee breaks.
Learning English at a language school was a transformative experience; immersive classes, diverse cultural exchanges, and dedicated teachers accelerated my proficiency and broadened my global perspective in mere months.
Show details » Read more...I took a six week sequence of private German lessons. I especially liked the fact that the instruction was in German. my listening comprehension improved a lot, and I spoke so much German during my lessons that I frequently found myself thinking in German afterwards. I had four different instructors, and each one knew exactly what to correct in my speaking and what to leave uncorrected for the time being. For example, major mistakes in word order were usually corrected at once. Getting the gender of a noun wrong was not always corrected right away, but getting its case wrong was typically corrected at once. The balance here is important, because excessive correction can so frequently interrupt the student that he cannot manage to complete a sentence, whereas insufficient correction lets errors become habitual and hard to correct in the future. To repeat, my instructors understood the balance between too much and too little exceptionally well.
I hoped to become a better reader by learning to speak the language better. This hope was realized over the course of my study. I appreciate the instructors' allowing me to decide how much homework I should commit to doing on any given day. I also appreciate the instructors' allowing me to pick what texts to read together.
I had no social interaction at all with the other students. That was not a problem, Our age difference was so great that we had very little in common. Some of the students may never have seen someone as old as I am. (I turned 79 on Sept 26.) Keep this in mind when you see my "average" rating for Social Activities below. It is an artificial rating since I had to put something there, but neither "good" nor "bad" makes sense for a rating of activities in which I never participated..
The classroom building was quite pleasant. The location was convenient and attractive, and the neighborhood was a pleasure to stroll around in. When my lessons lasted into the late afternoon, the students' free-time piano playing was occasionally a problem. Moving to a quieter room usually solved it.
My apartment on Tumblingerstraße was satisfactory. However, there are some problems that BWS should be aware of. In a nearby apartment in the same complex, loud talking and the playing of loud music often took place past 2300. This was true of only one apartment, but I was surprised that the apartment manager did not correct it. It was not clear to me where I should dump my garbage. One of the ceiling lights in my apartment did not work, the light over the stove did not work, and a small table lamp that was in the apartment when I arrived did not work. The eating utensils and dishes were not dirty, but some of them were dusty, slightly greasy too, as though they had been on the shelf and not used for a long time. If they had been washed before I moved in, they had not been washed sufficiently. I could not always turn off the front burner on my stove: when I turned the dial to the OFF position, the burner would remain very hot indefinitely. I thought this problem constituted a fire hazard, so I developed the habit of unplugging the stove from its outlet before going to bed and when I had to be away from the apartment for extended periods during the day. I unplugged the stove when I vacated the apartment a week ago. If the apartment manager had an office on site, I did not know where it was or how to locate it. Of the people whom I spoke with, none of them seemed to know either.
I do not want to exaggerate the problems with my apartment. To repeat, the apartment was satisfactory. But the problems i have specified should be addressed.
Aside from the problems with the apartment that I have just spoken about, my overall experience with BWS Germanlingua was excellent, the best language instruction I have ever received. I would definitely recommend BWS Germanlinguaa to others.
Great experience: classes were interesting and helped me improve my German and the teachers were very supportive and kind. the location is super, right in the centre of Munich. the school is in a nice building and there is everything you could be in need of. The school organises many different activities and most of them are free. I had a lot of fun and I met many people from all around the world. My guest family was amazing, they were all very nice to me and made me feel at home.

Show details » Read more...the experience of learning German in this school was very positive. The teachers are very close and kind to the students, trying to make the class enjoyable and dynamic. The School is in a central and well connected place, it can be easily reached with all means of transport. As the school is in the center of the city, there are restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, in short, a strategic place from all points of view. In the class, the number of students was reduced, facilitating participation and direct contact with the other students and the teacher. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend this school as an option to learn German.
Show details » Read more...Thank you for the opportunity to spend 8 months in the program. I really enjoyed going to school each day and working on my language skills right in the center of Munich. I found most of the teachers very engaging and patient with an older student. I also enjoyed the interaction with my younger school colleagues from around the world.
I wish I could have participated in some of the other after school events but that just didn't work out. I would recommend BWS as a great place to learn.
I have been with the school for 3 weeks now, standard course 4x45 min/day.
The teacher is good, writing everything on computer-->projector (a lot better than using whiteboard), goes forward in a good pace for the group and explains everything in a good way - always in German. The teacher makes sure to ask everybody to read/speak. I think the 4x45 minutes (actually 2x90) is good, would probably work well together with a private lesson a day on top of this.
I would have liked the group to be more on the same level. Since people start at different times and the length of their studies differ, it is hard to keep the whole group at the same level. This means that sometimes the group is "even", and sometimes it is not. I would also like to move a bit faster with even more focus on talking.
The school just in the city center nearby Marienplatz and Sendlinger tour, such convenient. The facilities are nice, feel home, just sometimes the students put too many cups, glasses or plates in the sink...
i like the teachers here, I had 2 teachers in this 2 weeks ( one just for 3 days and combined 2 classes - different levels together) , it takes time to re-adapt the new class. However the teachers are such professional, they tried to let all of us could learn something everyday, and sometimes they even spent their free time to instructed me, further more, they comforted and supported me with my private things
My course was only for one week. The location was central and easy to get to every morning from my hotel. My teacher, Axel, was very friendly, which contributed to my positive experience . I felt as though I had been placed in a class a little bit beyond my level and therefore would have preferred to be in a slightly easier class. Besides that, I would definitely come back and would love to do a longer course in the future.

I have to say that the secretary and the director of the school have been very nice and helpful! I really liked also my housemom: she has been very welcoming, nice and kind (also the house was quite near the centre!).
What i didn't like were the teachers: i started with a b1 level and I changed with a b2, so i had the possibility to meet two teachers: one of them was too slow and not active, the other one was not professional in my opinion. I didn't take part in the activities in the afternoon: the only activity was a dinner in the evening, but we ended up talking in English.
I was amased how competent the teachers were. The flexibility of the course length is a great advantage, but on the other hand the learning process had no structure because the study group is constantly changing.

The school location is great, easy to reach and close to everything you would want: bars, restaurants and shops.
The teaching was ok, even though my German was very low level,A1, I was still able to follow the lessons and interact, sometimes lessons would get boring with excessive explanations though, I feel like students need to speak more or if you are stuck listening to a long explanation in a foreign language you might lose interest very quickly.
My only complaint about the school structure would be the extremely narrow corridor and classes making them awkward to walk through.
The apartment I was staying in was alright, had some troubles with the electric cookers that wouldn't turn off and the lack of a socket on my room desk was kind of bothersome.
Overall it was a great experience and I would come back.
The location of the school is great! It is located in the center of Munich, near all the stores, restaurants and beautiful sites. I am a surfer...so after school I went to Eisbach to river surf. I met the local surfers and was able to continue practicing my German even out of class. I liked the teachers and the facilities a lot. The teachers only spoke in German, so I really needed to focus and not be shy to express myself in German. I felt this forced me to talk more and worry less about the grammar. I highly recommend BWS and would take another intensive class with them, if I’m given the chance.

Excuse me, I forgot his name.
He is well educated and very patient with me throughout my course from 19/09/2015 to 09/23/2015. My listening is not good, but my teacher spoke slowly.
I took the private lesson, so my teacher knew my abilities well. It was good for improving my speaking skills.

For this reason, didn’t learn much, but the quality of the teachers was of course excellent. The location and the facilities of the school were very good; not so many activities but it was all right for me. My room was okay but the apartment was a bit small. The worst thing was the very bad internet connection in my room.
Generally speaking, it was a wonderful experience because I met many friendly people from different countries and I had a really good time.
Basically, the class, teachers, location, facilities were very good, but the listening class was a little too difficult to me. The renovation in front of the building was sometimes too noisy. I liked the housing and the meals very much.

The location of the school was easy to find and very close to the city center which was useful and good for when school finished. The teachers were very nice and I learned a lot of German. They were willing to listen to all our suggestions of what we wanted to learn. The only thing I did not like was the housing. The apartment was too small and very old, but I liked the location of the apartment because it was near the river Isar and the Englischer Garten.
Show details » Read more...I appreciated the small classes, and the nice and helpful teachers. The location of the school was really good in my opinion - not far away from the city center and easy to find. I can't say a lot about activities; I guess I was in Munich too short and didn't have enough time to participate in any. I am satisfied with my housing and host family. It was a great experience.
Show details » Read more...I had a great time, but unfortunately there were a lot of French people, and I was only there for one week, so it was a bit hard to get some friends outside school because they just walk together and talk French. However, I did not care about this because this was not the attention of my course. They were all really open-minded in class, and so were all of the teachers. I felt very safe and surrounded by people who were willing to help me at any time.

Show details » Read more...The staff were happy to respond to my demands and to answer my questions. The teachers were really nice and were willing to explain grammar and other lessons repeatedly. I had completed a language placement test before my arrival, but the school placed me in a class with a level that I found too easy for me. After the first course, I mentioned this to the staff, and they helped me transfer to another class. It was really nice.
The social activities, most of all, were wonderful and interesting. Manu, who brings the students to places, was also nice, friendly, and concerned for students.
I booked my pick-up service online. Unfortunately, when I arrived at Munich, I couldn't find my luggage (because I went out from the wrong gate). I spent around three hours looking for my luggage in the airport. When I called my host family, they were already on their way home, so I had to take a taxi to the host family's house (it cost 92 euro). The school paid me back 50 euro for the transportation, but the host family didn't (which the school had paid for them). I had paid around 100 euro online beforehand.
For those who want to live with a host family, I suggest you write down your special requests! I lived with a host family who had 2 cats and 5 dogs; I love animals so this did not bother me. The only thing I wasn't satisfied with was that my housing offered me an underground room. Next time, if I would want to go abroad to get a language course, I would mention that I didn't want an underground room.
It was an excellent experience. Location of school is really good. Right in the city center. Teachers were really nice. It was so easy to communicate. I felt myself totally comfortable, I wasn't afraid to make mistakes or to ask stupid questions, what is so important for me. After my even so short time in the school I could really feel the huge progress.

There is a very positive atmosphere, very friendly and polite staff and very cosy classes. I don't think that you will get any negative feedback from anyone who was learned there. Thank you for your recommendations!
In my experience everything was great! The school has a great location and the housing that they provide is really comfortable. The teachers were amazing, especially my teacher Axel. I learned so much in so little time. I went from level zero to level 2 in two months, and for me that was amazing! Also, the activities they plan are so fun. It was really a great experience for me,
