More about studying in Brno »
Brno is one of the largest cities in the Czech Republic and is located in the Moravia region of the country. It is an ancient city, and was officially given city status around 1,000 A.D. Not only is Brno an important city within the Czech Republic, but it is also quite close to 3 major European capitals: Vienna, Austria; its own capital of Prague; and Bratislava, Slovakia. There are many trains travelling to and from Brno, which is great news for students interested in attending Czech school in Brno since they can easily travel to other nearby countries and capitals to experience many aspects of European life. Students interested in Czech courses in Brno will also find many things to do within the city, like touring the city center, Spilberk castle, Freedom Square, and the famous Capuchin Church. There is also plenty of shopping within Brno, where students can go explore and practice their new language skills as well. For those interested in shopping in Brno, a visit to Vankovka Gallery will serve as both a history lesson as well as a place of commerce: the shopping area is composed of old industrial buildings that have since been converted into stores and functioning modern buildings. Students can also choose from many museums to visit during their stay in Brno, including the Museum of Gypsy Culture, The Moravian Museum, and for students who love science, the Mendel Museum of Genetics, named after famous scientist and the “father of modern genetics”, Gregor Mendel. Of course, there are also simpler things to enjoy while in Brno, like just enjoying a pint of Starobrno, the city’s most famous local beer.
