Cartagena is a fantastic city that guards the secrets of history in its walls, balconies, buildings and narrow cobbled streets. It is said that you do not know the Caribbean until you know Cartagena, its people, and culture. In the Old City you are going to find fantastic restaurants, clubs, and museums, have a short trip on a coach or see the architecture; be prepared to enjoy its delicious gastronomy, beaches and all the activities the city offers.
Cartagena is a UNESCO World Heritage City, and on the “must see” lists of millions of world travelers. Ramparts and walls were built all around the city in order to protect it from pirate attacks. The forts of San José and San Sebastián and the castles of San Felipe de Barajas and San Fernando y Las Bóvedas are still standing today Now, nearly 500 years old, this majestic city on the South-western Caribbean, retains much the charm, history, architecture, romance and adventure of days gone by.
Amazing school and really good teachers. A lot of activities is included in the price. Loved it

All the teachers I had the opportunity to learn from were extremely caring and professional. Miguel, Sandra, Daniela, Levi and Edna were responsible for helping me to finally abandon "Portuñol" towards real Spanish and always in a fun and dynamic way.
Every week we also had a cooking class with Rose, where we learned local recipes, an unmissable way to experience the rich Colombian culture (if you're Brazilian, I'm sure you'll enjoy everything that is made, you'll just be a little surprised by the way how do you eat avocado there
I really liked all the people who worked there. The atmosphere was great and i felt really welcome. The fruits in the break are very nice. Location was perfect. In a beautiful neighborhood.
Show details » Read more...I attended the Nueva Lengua school in Cartagena from Feb 23 to March 20, 2015.
The classes and teachers were excellent.
The location and the facilities were good.
The activities were well-organized and very interesting.
The housing was good and the family I lived with was pleasant.
So, if everything was fairly good, why do I give a BAD rating to this school???
I give it a BAD rating because:
1. When I registered, I paid 35 COP to be picked-up at the airport and there was nobody there to pick me up;
2. So I had to take a taxi to the city and he could never find the address of the family that I was given by the school: COST 20,000.00 COP;
3. I was given four (4) emergency phone numbers which I called and could never get an answer from anyone of them;
4. Because of the above, I had to sleep in a hotel: cost 60,000.00 COP;
5. The next day (first day of school) I had to take another taxi to the school: cost 15,000.00 COP.
6. Total personal cost of a very bad arrival experience in Cartagena: 95,000.00 COP, which should have cost me nothing!
7. I was never offered reimbursement or compensation for any of these personal expenses.
Everything and everyone at Nueva Lengua are great! The teachers are really nice and competent, and adapt themselves to your needs. They are really friendly, and it's very easy and fun to learn with them.
The school is very nice, not too big, with nice classrooms, and well-located in Getsemani. The activities are fun as well, though it can be hard to understand the museum's visits with very little Spanish.
The family I stayed with was really nice. The food was excellent and the house was clean. It was a little far from the school, which was kind of a surprise at the beginning. But after all, it was a good walk.
I have nothing negative to say about my stay in Cartagena, except that a month was too short! I wish I had stayed longer!
Thank you for taking the time to rate us, fur us is really important that you had a really nice experience in our school and country. Greetings from teacher Natalia, now she is back at the school in Bogotá.
Have a great day !
:)
I thought that the teachers were very good and very helpful. I really don't think there's any way I could have gotten more out of a Spanish language program in one week.
