Portuguese Connection Language School
Offered to beginner, intermediate, advanced, and professional students with specific needs. Classes start any Monday, and are held Monday through Friday. Choosing individual classes has, of course, its own advantages. You can benefit from a private teacher, one-to-one lessons, focusing on your special needs more easily, identifying your areas for improvement, and constant feedback on your language progress. The teacher can actually tailor his or her teaching style to your abilities as a student. You can learn at your own pace and in a more effective way.
This is the private course of 4 classes of 50 minutes every morning from 9am to 12:50pm. Recommended for those who want a more personalized and individual approach and faster paced learning. Whether you are an absolute beginner or advanced, these lessons are always better value because the teacher will be 100% focused on your individual language learning, ready to help you to improve and overcome any difficulties you may have. Besides, you can choose the subject you want to work on yourself. Some students prefer to have a class outside the school, for example, to go to the market, a cafe, a bookshop or elsewhere. It´s definitely a more flexible course.
Listening, Speaking, Pronunciation, Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Grammar and Activities

Portuguese Connection is located in the heart of Lisbon, at the very centre of the city. It is close to museums, cafes, historic buildings, shopping centres and old neighbourhoods.
The school's excellent location means you are never more than a short walk away from all the major attractions in Lisbon.
I took two weeks of intensive language school starting with the absolute beginner class. Four of the six of us were in class together for the two weeks with the same teacher which made a lot of sense. The time is so short, and we did not need to spend the first day of the second week getting to know each other. We all learned an enormous amount and talked a lot during class — which is obviously the goal. I will definitely be back.

The activities I think were a great pick as they showcased all different things part of the Portuguese culture and showcased Lisboa and what goes on in the city, my personal favourite was the fado. The student accommodation was great I felt that the rooms were very nice and provided everything that you would need, also being located next to a supermarket was extremely useful along with all the different things the student accommodation offered like study spaces, a gym ect. The only negative thing I can mention about the whole trip is the booking, at first we was going through an agency who was not very helpful and seemed very disorganised however after being in direct contact with the school they were very helpful and any issues and queries were soon resolved. Overall my experience was great and not only did it make me want to carry on learning the language but it also made me fall in love with the city.

Classes are very well prepared, and Teachers are very competent.
The school knows well each and every student and cares for their portuguese progress.
Location is perfect and facilities are good.
I stayed with a very nice family provided by the school.
The whole experience was great!!! I learnt a lot and had 2 wonderful weeks in Lisbon.
Highly recommended. The best were the teachers, I could learn a lot from them.
Show details » Read more...The teachers in the school is very good and supportive. For me it would have been better if you have the same teachers for the individual lessons. The location is good close to public communication. Half of the classroom is good, but the other half have to small desk space. Overall a very nice experience, and I learn a lot.
Show details » Read more...The language classes were good. I would recommend just taking the regular language class and arranging your own wine tasting tours. There are plenty of choices out there and then you don’t lose one day of classes.

The teachers and staff were all extremely friendly and even helped finding and booking a covid test for my return flight. The lessons were extremely engaging, taught in a more conversational way. There was a good mix of resources using a video, booklet and images for conversation.
The teacher was really friendly as well as the other students. The classes were interesting.

I was happy with the homestay arrangements.
The individual classes were particularly good, that is both challenging and prosperous. The small size of the group classes is a plus, too. Pronounciation is hard to learn (and to teach) in group classes though.

Show details » Read more...It was great fun! It was the first time I took a language course abroad, thus I do not have experience with other schools, but I believe they are doing a great job. Teachers are very dedicated, young, very friendly and cheerful and it‘s a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere to take first steps in a new language. The first class I was in was too difficult for me, but then I switched and it was better. I only had one week, but would recommend to take at least two. It was carnival time when I was there. On Monday we did a little bit of masquerade
Show details » Read more...I picked this company after looking at another as I got a gut feeling they were trustworthy and professional, and my gut was right..Booking to arrival back home was smooth, and there was never a hitch. The teachers at the school bend over backwards to help us, even chasing down a lost phone left in a taxi.
I opted for individual lessons as I only had a week spare, and wanted to cram in as much as possible, If you go on your own like me and have longer I would consider group lessons as I think the social aspect of being with others would have been fun.
Having said that the gratis weekly group outing was so nice and you can have a chat with other colleagues at brew time.
I also opted to stay with a host family which was great and they were super. I imagined myself listening and maybe learning a bit more but frankly after an intensive day I was relieved my host spoke good English. It is a nice aspect to have the opportunity to stay with a Portuguese family and I was included in a family gathering and didn't have the hassle of billy no mates eating out at night on my own .... but like me if your an adult that's your choice.
I had the same teacher all week so she quickly knew my standard of Portuguese (beginner) and helped me enormously, I cannot rate her highly enough.
Classes have been very effective and fun - thanks to our great teacher Joanna.
It has been the right mix of learning focus as well as an easy and fun atmosphere.
Location was excellent - super centrally located in Barrio Alto.
Facilities were friendly and functional.
I had booked the Portuguese and wine course - thinking that this would be for the entire group. However this was not the case. For one wine tasting, this was still fun - meeting another group of open and fun people.
The full day wine tour- however was not really a wine tour - but more of an excursion to the south of Lisbon. Beautiful landscapes and one visit to the wine cellar - but not exactly to the brief.
Housing I didn't book through the School - so cannot comment.
Overall a really memorable and fun experience! would recommend it anytime!
Started as an absolute beginner I learnt much more than expected.
And this was because of the motivating teacher Joanna.
The class consisted of 8 students from 6 countries.
As I am in my 40ties I was a little afraid to have many youngsters in the class, but there was a good mixture from 25-61 years. The location of the school is great, the premises are a bit small, but okay.
Only I was disappointed about the activities. I booked a wine course as well and found myself alone in a winery tasting wine.
I thought it would be a whole group from the Language School doing this and to share the experiences.
In my opinion it was a lack of communication there. In the end I cancelled the wine program and did some more lessons.
I don’t have enough of my English to express delight from this place, from these people, from the atmosphere and attention that surrounded me ... so I will write in Russian.
Portuguese Connection Language School is a small but insanely cozy place in the center of Lisbon, a little away from the tourist routes, where a real family met me. Lovely, lively girls and boys, with whom I wanted to be near (if I was 42!) And one at all Labrador Maggie.
I was literally stunned by the reception! Right from the door, they spoke to me in Portuguese and sent me to the classroom without any paperwork. Immediately! Another ten minutes later they planted a bag with a set of all sorts of differences designed to help me in my studies (notebook, textbook, printouts with tables of irregular verbs, pens, pencils, etc. :)
All learning Portuguese was exclusively in Portuguese, which at first insanely confused, because she did not understand everything at once. But they explained it to me over and over again :) I would like to note that all the teachers were fluent in English and not only, so that in particularly awkward situations I could resort to English :)
Full immersion! Complete removal of the language barrier! Full democracy! And cute buns in the form of good coffee, sweets and great mood of everyone who was near!
Separately I would like to say about the group in which I was lucky to be engaged in, so to speak group mates .... this is fantastic. And let them be few, but what !!! All from different countries! All competent, intelligent and insanely pleasant people, full of energy and good energy. It was another bonus, because I had the opportunity to study with representatives of several countries at once.
Many thanks to the teachers, their patience, perseverance, loyalty, openness and desire to support ... ALWAYS! Their ethics and great desire to leave knowledge in our heads :)
And it was also difficult for me, really difficult, difficult ... I really can't remember when my brain was straining so much :) I took an intensive course for myself and it turned out to be very difficult. I wanted to remember everything :) and immediately. Already there I realized that I was sorely lacking time. But I only had two weeks. I would love to continue my studies, but I could not do it right away, because it was my vacation. I really hope to come back! :)
What else ... a fairy tale in which I want to return again :)
.
Everything needed was present: good and focused teachers, good teaching material, serious students - and just the basic: table, chairs, coffee and a helpful staff and friendly atmosphere. Nothing more was needed.
Location was fine, too, opposite a small park with cafés. Situated centrally in Lisboa in a very nice area.
One afternoon we had a very interesting gastronomic 'tour of the city'.
I was very satisfied with my housing. I stayed with a family in another nice area of central Lisbon.
I learned a lot and got appetite to learn more. I am consideringan online-course sometime after Christmas.
The teachers were really good. The way they teached was professional, everyone was really kind. Some of the rooms were a bit small.
Show details » Read more...All the members of the language school are very nice kind. They make it very easy to explain all facilities, they know each other very well, so they are a good team. I expect the location has a nice climate even during the summer. The park for the break is really nice. I had an intensive course, so I was the only one in that course. I enjoyed the intensive care of my teacher Susana, she was very patient, knew all the time how to deal with mistakes and use these to make difference in language clear, she finds many exercises in very different kind of ways. I jointed an activity in the afternoon, that improve the listening comprehension. The housing was very nice as well, 15-20 minutes of walking distance, I had a warm welcome and very friendly host.

The location of the school is really comfortable for everything!!
Warm-hearted people, the teachers, the secretary and the director were our nurses and trouble shooters, touristic guides and all what we needed. The teachers were very educated and professional. Rooms bright, calm and cool (open windows to the backyard, no air conditioning), coffee machine and biscuits.
Opposite the school is a park with two kiosks. There is also one of the most famous trees of Lisbon: a cypress with a crown of 26 meters diameter. Under this tree there is space for more than 120 people :)
Groups of 6 to 8 students, everyone should speak and could speak with his little Portuguese. They listened with a lot of patience. Every Thursday there was a nice walk-around for example a culinary excursion through Lisbon, an excursion to the old Arabic quarter.
Everything was very fine.
I liked the classes, I usually had great great classmates and the size of the group was perfect. I liked all of the teachers, they always had time for me and listened and answered to all of my questions carefully. The fact that the teachers changed every week was a great exercise to hear different people talking and get used to different ways of teaching a language, which was very interesting. The rooms were quite nice and the school has a great location, right in the centre of Lisbon. I liked the weekly walking tours. There I saw things, which I probably never would have seen on my own.

Indeed, we were few student learning at the same time so the teacher is able to help us more. Moreover there is a really good atmosphere there, during the break, people come talk to you, there are lot of exchanges. I recommend this school !

I learned enough to have small, simple conversations in restaurants, on the street, etc.... Special thanks to my teacher Isabel for her affords to teach as much as possible in one week and giving us all the insider tips around Lisbon!
The team of Portuguese Connection works with passion and knows every single student, no matter how long he stays. They even prepared a birthday surprise for one student.
I can recommend the school if you not only want to improve language skills but also want to enjoy the welcoming, Portuguese culture!
Muito obrigado Linda!
It was a big pleasure to have you in our school! We all already miss you, including Maggie!
Um grande abraço de Portugal
I am half way through my one-to-one Portuguese lessons at the school. I felt warmly welcomed and the school made great efforts to tailor a course to fit my circumstances. My teacher is lovely, and the lessons are just what I was looking for. The facilities are fine and the school is in a very nice part of the beautiful city of Lisbon.

Thank you very much for your kind words, Liz. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your one-to-one classes at Portuguese Connection! We already miss your extreme kindness!
Hope to see you again soon!
The tutors were fantastic and the rest of the staff that worked there. There were some social events that were held, but they were not that well advertised and as I was in a class with a couple of older people I found it hard to mingle. Opportunities to socialize with Portuguese speakers outside of the school would be beneficial. My host house was lovely but considering unpredictable circumstances it was a bit difficult to practice my Portuguese there. The location was lovely and good coffee and snacks were provided.

Hello Laura!
For us it was a real pleasure to have such a nice and dedicated student as you are in our school!
One month has passed so quickly!!!
We wish you all the best and please continue to study Portuguese!
The school is up to date, the teachers are very good, well-educated and brings the Portuguese language closer to you.
We had a small group which was excellent for study. I got basic knowledge of Portuguese. Like in every language, the vocabulary you have to learn by yourself, and the most important thing is speaking. So for sure I would do it again.
If I only I don't have so short holiday, I would have booked for straight two weeks.
The teachers are really there to help and no question can be too stupid.
So all in all it is top rated. Thanks to the whole team of Portuguese Connection Language school.
I decided to have the Portuguese language course just few days before I was in Lisbon. The administrative team was amazing in getting me registered and once I got to Lisbon I had one of the best experiences of my life. The school was in a fantastic location, our teacher was brilliant and committed and the other students were super engaged with the process of learning and practicing their Portuguese. I was in level B1 and I cannot wait to go back to Lisbon to do the more advanced course. I am inspired and so thankful for the experience with Portuguese Connection.

I especially want to mention the friendliness and professionalism of teachers. I got the speaking skills, I have improved grammar and acquired new words.
Thank all of teachers so much!
I tend to forget that while learning a language you also get to know a lot about the people, their culture and traditions.
You could say that you get a glimpse of the Portuguese soul.
This was certainly the case while studying at the Portuguese Connection Language School. The school itself, is very easy to reach, and was at 5 minutes walking distance from the Portuguese family where I was staying. It is small in size, but great in the way it approaches the task.
The positive experience already began before my trip started, when Marco contacted me to take care of a practical issue involving my luggage. I immediately got a nice feeling about the school. Then, when I first went to the school my teacher Joana greeted me and my fellow student with a radiant smile. As I had already prepared my visit by studying intensively at home, it did not take long before we were talking in Portuguese.
Even though I only booked for one week, it was very intensive, and I learned a lot of new grammar and vocabulary. Classes were never dull, and always felt very personal. In the afternoon I had also booked a private lesson, in which Joana let me decide on what I wanted to focus them. She also had some suggestions herself.
I learned quite a lot, and the teacher was always there to assist me with any question I could have. Within a week I felt a lot more fluent and I feel much more fluent and self-confident when striking up a conversation with a Portuguese speaking person.
Something more about the school: after classes you can -if you want to- use a different classroom to study a bit. For those who want to explore Lisbon a bit more, the school also has some group visits, and some suggestions of places to explore.
In summary, I am very happy with the overall experience. I believe that I learned a lot, and got much more fluent at speaking Portuguese, even though I was there for only a week. I got onto the plane with a bit of 'saudades' with only a couple of 'pastéis de Belém' to ease the pain.
Hello Filiep
Thank you so much for your testimonial and we are very glad that our school has met your best expectations! It is also very rewarding for us to know that you have learnt and improved significantly!
We hope you can come back at least to enjoy again our beautiful Lisbon and visit us at school, and also keep on studying Portuguese!
Obrigado.

The way of teaching is both logical and interesting. All the staff are nice and friendly, and the teacher was of high quality. My host family didn't speak much English, but they were really nice and I was happy to speak Portuguese little by little with them.
I really enjoyed studying there and even would like to learn more Portuguese after a week.
Hello Li
You were one of the nicest students we have ever had! It is great to know that we have contributed to increase your interest in learning Portuguese. For us it would have been a greater pleasure if you could have stayed with us for a longer period!
We wish you all the best and if you need any help from us on learning Portuguese, please let us know!

In my personal experience, I can say that:
Classes: I was lucky to meet more students (now, new friends) at a similar level and that permitted us to create great classes adapted for us.
Teacher: she has a lot of experience and she studied to teach Portuguese to foreign people, she adapted the course to our needs with nice teaching methods
Location: It is near of the center of Lisbon, it is quiet and a good location
Facilities: It is a normal school but the difference is that they want to give you the best experience in classes and Portugal
Activities: They plan activities, the director goes with you to different places planned without cost, you only cover entrances if is required; they even help you to plan your personal activities alone in Portugal
Housing: She shared with me the best places to know in Portugal and that was a great opportunity in my life to not be alone, she trusted me to share her house.
Hello Azael
It was a pleasure to have you in our school. You are a very dedicated student and that's inspiring for us!!!
We hope you can come back at least to enjoy again our beautiful Lisbon and visit us at school.
