inlingua Porto, founded in 1978, has been running high-quality Portuguese courses for almost 40 years.
All aspects of language and culture are covered. However we give special emphasis to oral communication skills: speaking and understanding - so normally it is in these areas where you will make the most progress. Without complicated grammatical explanations, we aim to teach the language through speaking, through examples, through dialogues, and through roleplay. All lessons take place exclusively in Portuguese and you will soon feel confident to use Portuguese both socially and at work.
Facilities include: 8 comfortable, air-conditioned classrooms- each with natural light and double glazing
free wi-fi in all rooms/computer room with computers for student access / café/bar area for students to socialize and take a break between lessons/smoker's veranda / small library for student use (books, DVDs) / car-park in front of school/bus and metro stops next to school / café downstairs
cafés and restaurants nearby / shops and supermarkets nearby
The nationality and age mix at inlingua Porto varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 30. In the summer, the average age is 30.
Located in the historic city centre of downtown Porto ("Baixa") inlingua offers the perfect base to explore this beautiful city.
Just 50 meters from the Town Hall, and situated in a beautiful art deco 1940's building, it is very near Rua Santa Catarina, the principal shopping high street of Porto. inlingua occupies the first floor of the building. On the ground floor is the café Déu la Déu with some of the best coffee and cakes in town: be warned!
The school is located in a great place in Porto, with really nice facilities. The teachers clearly all care about their students, and are attentive and skilled. If traditional classroom based language learning appeals to you, I recommend this excellent school.

Different pronunciation and forms. This made my personal experience very difficult. I would suggest that it may be an online experience to offer as there don’t seem to be any platforms offered online using European Portugues.
Teachers were amazingly patient with me and the one on one sessions very good.
Also living with Olivia and her family was very supportive. I could not have coped without her.
Location and access from the Metro was easy and cafes restaurants offered a wide range of options.
Thank you everyone at Ilingua Escola.
Housing - incl. breakfast and dinner excellent
Class - international, I liked it
Organization/office - well prepared, good processes
Location - excellent
Facilities - very good
Activities - there could be more (for example wine tasting, port wine tasting)
Teachers - two teachers, both different, therefore good for different types of students , very agreeable
Over all impression: I was very satisfied, I liked it very much and would like to come back to do a second part of the course
I liked everything. The teacher was very good and niche, the secretaries were nice and able to help, we could choose the schedule and the teacher. The only thing is that we find it a bit expensive and there were not many activities due to the pandemic, but I understand: we were only two students in the classroom. It was very intense and we learnt a lot.

Very good idea to change the teachers. It helps getting familiar with different accents, elocutions, prosodies, and rates of speech.
Second excellent point : only two alumni in my morning class ; so we were forced to speak a lot, each in turn.
The location of the school is excellent : right in the middle of the city with many buses serving it.
One small drawback : the rooms are "loud " because of sound reverberation. As I have some hearing problems, it sometimes disturbed me a little (my problem, not yours).
The ad for the café below the school, on street level, is not exaggerated : it is excellent (coffee and cakes), cheap and clean. A very good place to rehearse while waiting for the beginning of the lessons.
The school's staff was very pleasant and friendly.
My suggestion : giving at the end of the lesson a printed sheet about the grammatical rules studied during the lesson would be helpful.
Strong point : the beautiful weather was for free !
My conclusion : excellent from all points of view.
My expectations were met in full:
- great teachers;
- great location and facilitis;
- great activities.
MANY THANKS, inlingua Porto team!
I liked the school family and it was a good mood among the teachers. The secretaries were nice and helpful. The teachers approached me and motivated me. They were always benevolent and appreciative. I always felt well integrated in class and the learning level suited me.
The premises were ok. The activities were sometimes less interesting.
Also the cleaning lady I appreciated a lot.
The host family was nice and I was accepted into the family. My room was very clean and well equipped.
The room with the computers was often occupied and the internet was a bit unstable. With 2 students I missed the 3 hour.
My guest family was well chosen. They were very attentive to my needs and only spoke Portugese with me.
I had two teachers who complemented each other quite well. I would have wished for more hours, since it was an intensive course.
Class rooms are spacious and comfortable. All teachers arte very friendly and try to set everyone at ease speaking Portuguese.
The classes were very good and tailor made. The teachers were very committed.

All the people are kind and if I ask something they will help until I fully understand.
My personal experience was very good.
The classes were very constructive with a very good system
Teachers were very prepared, I would like to make an special commentary to ANA FERNANDEZ, excellent teacher.
Location was perfect just five minutes from the center of Porto.
Activities weren't very good. I think they could be better. For instance, if you put a film there should be with SUBTITLES, or if there are excursion, the teacher should be talking about the excursion after.
I really liked the lunch with our teacher; it s very useful.
Family and housing were perfect! Lovely family! And house had every that I need.
From the first day to the last one, my trip to Porto has been amazing and unforgettable. The classes were really interesting and really well done to learn the maximum of the language. This has been only possible thanks to the excellent teacher I got and also thanks to the staff of the school.

I had to take the metro then transfer to a bus to get there. When I was out after 2200, there were few buses to catch. Anyway, my host mother Patricia was very great and friendly!

They had a very pleasant and helpful staff. The teachers were great and very competent.
I am a real beginner when it comes to learning Portuguese. I needed to start from really zero! But most of the teachers and colleagues are very very patient and nice. They are willing to teach everything I want or need! And they also set a special process for me in order to make me speak more fluently! The location of Inlingua is in the center of Porto; it's convenient for everything. And the school also recognizes many different activities, such as lunch with teacher, visit the city and watch films. It's fun and useful and allows one to know more about the city and language. The housing, for me, is really, really impressive. It was amazing to meet Paula and lived with her. She's nice, talkative and willing to share everything. She cooks so well also! I've become fatter! Haha! And she also provides a warm and free home, treats me like family and always takes me out for dinner or for visits. She is a really great host mother! I love her so much! Anyway, the days I spent in Porto were very nice and worth it!

I enjoyed the city itself, which I visited on my own because my lessons were in the afternoon. But it was for a very good reason; the teachers changed my program based on my language level. The whole staff was very affable and the mood at Inlingua was very pleasant.
D. Adriana Rente, who hosted me during these two weeks, was kind and responsive, and helped me to experience the city and the region. However, I was also left with autonomy quite quickly, and although she speaks French, we managed to practise only Portuguese during the entire trip.
In the end, all went well, except the weather.
Thank you all at Inlingua Porto!
Host family and teachers were really nice. I appreciate you offered activities. I would rather have more partners in my class to meet more people.

We do not have any group class courses that are not every day. In
this case we recommend an individual programme where the student can
take the lessons depending on her own schedule.
The group lessons focus on European/African Portuguese.
Individual / private lessons can be Brazilian. (NB there is not a very
big difference)
