To help prepare you for your exam, BLS English will provide the grammar, vocabulary and skills essential for most English language exams. You will study 23 hours per week, combining 15 hours of General English classes with 8 hours of Exam focused classes each week. We can give you advice on which exam is best for you and offer additional practice for home.

English Courses UK at BLS English run throughout the year except for a two-week break over the Christmas period. Entry into any of the BLS English courses is very flexible and it is possible to start most Mondays in the year for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Before you arrive or on your first day in school, you will be sent an English language test which will help us to choose your class before you arrive to make the most of every minute. Perhaps you have a particular reason for studying? An exam you would like to sit now or in the future? Let us know and we will help. We aim to support and advise you from start to finish.
You will have daily homework and weekly progress tests so we can check your progress and help you achieve your goals.

The nationality and age mix at BLS English varies over different time periods, courses and levels. In the summer, the average age is 18.

Bury St Edmunds has played a very important part in English history; it was here that in 1214, Barons swore they would force King John to accept the Carter of Liberties, later known as the Magna Carta, one of the most important documents of Medieval England, and was a significant step towards the English democratic and legal systems of today. King Henry VIII’s sister, Mary, is buried in St Mary’s Church and the now ruined Abbey, with its magnificent gardens, was a shrine to Saint Edmund, King of the East Angles.
Bury has a striking combination of architecture, from medieval and elegant Georgian squares, a glorious Cathedral with it’s stunning Millenium Tower, magnificent gardens, alongside ultra modern facilities.
Bury St Edmunds has excellent shopping and a wonderful street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Leisure facilities include a multiplex cinema complex, an “arts cinema”, theatres, newly designed leisure and fitness centre, great restaurants, pubs, and cafes, in addition to quaint old-world shops.
Bury St Edmunds has a population of about 45,000 and is on a direct train line and coach service to London.
Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Bury St. Edmunds. These homes are often between 25 - 50 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Student residences are more suitable for an independent student, who is looking for clean, basic accommodation at an economic price. All students must be 18+. We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from . Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.
If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
