Since 2013, our Berlin language school has stood for goal- and practice-oriented language programs for prospective international students (university preparation), professionals, government agencies and diplomatic missions in Berlin and Brandenburg.
The upgrade as a language institute at the VICTORIA | International University – formerly the University of Business, Technology and Culture (hwtk) – for which we have already been acting as the International Office since 2017, further raises our profile. Our language courses are now ECTS-eligible and can be credited toward subsequent university studies. Our international expertise helps hundreds of young people from all over the world gain university places in Germany every year. VICTORIA University’s specialization in dual study programs based on the split-week model is also reflected in our language courses: All intensive courses are now geared toward the most effective possible intermeshing of theory transfer and practical applicability. We want you to get along just as well on the street, at the bakery, or in a German government office as you do at work or in the lecture hall.
Our individual and corporate customers also benefit from our proximity to academic operations, its research and innovation potential, and its dual networking with Berlin’s business community. In dozens of subject areas and industries, from law to marketing, healthcare, and international management, we have our finger on the pulse and know exactly what matters in terms of technical language.
The nationality and age mix at VICTORIA | Academy of Languages varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 25. In the summer, the average age is 25.
Our school is located in the middle of Berlin. Students will find ideal public transport connections, just a short walk from the underground stations Potsdamer Platz or Mendelsohn-Bartholdy Park. The Brandenburg Gate, government quarter and one of Berlin's most famous shopping malls (Mall of Berlin) are all within a short walk distance. The bright and cheerful classrooms are located on the modern International Education Campus. Lifts are available, and there are several car parks close to the school.
Since the fall of the Iron Curtain and the end of division by the Berlin Wall, Berlin has experienced architectural and cultural regeneration and enhancement that redefine it as a 21st century world city, but one still mindful of its turbulent history. The steel and glass cupola of the Reichstag and the postmodern shopping centres reflect opulent historic builings dating back to the imperial era alongside the monuments and memorials.
Over 150 concert halls and theatres, three opera houses, 200 museums and art collections, 440 galleries displaying the works of over 6000 contemporary artists, as well as some of the world's most popular nightlife, including the Berghain, all vie for the attention of over 12 million visitors a year. The relatively new Berlinale is now a rival to the established European film festivals in Venice and Cannes. Meanwhile, music lovers are spoilt for choice by some of the best symphony orchestras and choirs in the world.
As I only spent a week at the school and didn't live there my feedback can only be quite limited. I found registering and renting books to be an easy process and the staff was nice while taking care of it. My actual classes were great and I really liked my teachers Claudia and Theo. The school itself was easily accessible with public transport.
The only "negative" feedback is that no one was there when I came to check in at 8 15 as instructed, however they showed up shortly after. I was also put in a class that was taking the test to move up from A2 to B1 the week I was there so I didn't get as much out of the experience considering one day was spent on the test, another 2 purely on preparation and another talking about the test. I found it quite unfortunate since I wasn't even sure if I was at the correct level but it was the only A2 available.
I do understand there is a limit to how many classes can take place at each level but I wish I knew ahead of time how far along they each were, I could've for example have moved my week a bit to start with a new A2 class from the beginning. Generally I really liked it though and would consider returning :)
I had a really good teacher that encouraged us to really only communicate in german.

But I must say that the dorm is located on the school grounds and is located in the city center. Thus, the main sightseeings, supermarkets and train stations were within a 5-minute walk. I like the quality of teaching and the methods used. Natali is the best.

The school inside is beautiful, modern and state-of-the-art, with many amenities (study room with computers, park in front, cafeteria nearby, large and comfortable classrooms, friendly and helpful staff). The teachers favoured reading and especially conversation. There is the possibility of buying books or buying them on deposit, which makes it easier for people like me who have been at school for a short time.

Consider yourself very lucky if your course is taught by Natalie Rajak, Theodoros Papantoniu or Elena Kushnir. Although, unfortunately, there were also weak teachers. I was living in a campus for a month. If there is nothing better, then, let's say, mediocre but okay (in Berlin, there are problems with housing). If I ever have the opportunity, I would study further.

Even though the classes were supposed to prepare students for TOEFL exam which wasn't really relevant for me, it was beneficial to participate in lessons since the tasks were quite challenging but not too difficult. Location was great, almost at the heart of Berlin. My teacher Franka was really kind, helpful and cool. So I'd say I improved quite a lot even in only one week and I don't regret going there!

Hello Habiba,
thanks for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our school and the German lessons.
On the other hand we are very sorry that you had difficulties with our accommodation. Our accommodation facilities are maintained at least twice a week by a professional cleaning service. However, it is important to understand that in both student communities - hostel and campus dormitory - the residents themselves are responsible for the daily maintenance and keeping the private and common rooms clean. If individuals have violated the house rules in the kitchen or dining room, we will of course take action against them. In order to do this, however, we need feedback from the residents. It is not always traceable who has left garbage behind or who has not washed the pan, etc. In exceptional cases we also arrange special cleaning by our company. After your suggestion e.g. the special cleaning of the refrigerators, which you unfortunately missed. It hurts us that you did not bring up your problems in the hostel earlier. We had hoped to have helped you with this free upgrade. Our accommodation department was available for you at any time and would have been happy to assist. We would like to invite you to a follow-up meeting or phone conversation with our school management if you have any suggestions or need to talk about what we can do better.
All the best
F+U
The English teacher who I met was really nice. She immediately understood my English level, prepared great materials with which I could learn a lot. Also some tips about writing were helpful.
Show details » Read more...The school facilities were good, and the teachers overall good as well. However, the a lack of a more personalized follow up on the students capabilities made it at times too difficult, and at others too easy. Therefore the overall experience lacked in consistency.
The highest point in the three and one half months that I spent with F+U Academy of Languages was the family with which I boarded. A marvelous experience, and one of high human quality. Have been left with angels and friends for life!!!
The classes is comfortable, the teachers are nicely and very help.
I choose shared apartment and living with other roommate, although the apartment has been a little old fashion, but everything is fine. I could bought something at the supermarket just near my WG. For me, that’s very convenient in winter season.
Only one thing, l don’t really like is the house light bulb always yellow light.
I have been to F + U -- mostly in Berlin, but also at Heidelberg -- a fair number of times (each time, for short periods of one or two weeks) and have had a number of different teachers -- perhaps 4 or 5 in all. Overall, I would give a good or very good ranking to the Academy, as some teachers are simply excellent. Still :
Some but not all teachers correct students regularly when they make serious mistakes orally, including with respect to prononciation or grammar.
Some but not all teachers accept "homework assignments" : that is, to review written compositions of students.
Some but not all teachers make sure that virtually all students (including those who are shy) participate in discussions.
As I indicated during my last course, I disagreed with the parts of homework assignments which consisted of simple lists of German words for us to translate, using our telephones, and then to memorize, but with the context only offered in a later chapter. The main problem is that many German words, such as for example "einstellen", have many different meanings, depending on context. In response, the teacher indicated that, in the future, the course would be altered to meet this concern.
Some but not all teachers insist on punctuality -- that students (and the teacher as well) arrive strictly on time.
I attended your school only for two weeks but I m perfectly content. It’s in a very nice location, close to public transport, I'm very satisfied with teachers, but I would have preferred to have more adult classmates,

I remembered some Grammar and have been speaking a lot. I noticed that Academy built conveniently for students to study and free time. I liked that teachers were using different teaching methods and handout. Michelle McCartney was the most liked teacher for me, she taught and how study English. I will use her methods in my work, because I am teacher of Epidemiology at the Medical University in my country. Now I am thinking how to continue teaching English. Thanks for comfortable good atmosphere.

Is really hard to choose who was the best teacher.
Maybe it was Katya from London. (for me)
Location of School is pretty good.
We don't use some facilities.
I lived in a Hotel not so far from school.
The teacher was very helpful, and the location was very close to the hotel where my Dad was staying.

The classrooms were a little bit small.
Most of the teachers were excellent
The locatión was perfect. It had very good conections.
Dear Elena,
Thank you so much for your kind words! We are happy you had a good time with us and we hope to see you again in the future!
I liked the classes very much. I had four different teachers and all of them were very good. The classes were amusing and interesting, and you could easily notice your own progress. Nevertheless, we didn’t have a good experience in terms of accommodation. We chose to stay in a share flat. When we arrived, we discovered that the place was extremely dirty, with dust, oil and dirt everywhere. The WC seat was broken, the pans and casseroles were dirty, the mattresses and pillows had yellow spots... We talked to the person responsible of the housing and she ignored us during a whole week. We had to insist a lot in order to have our flat cleaned. We felt insulted, because we had paid a lot of money for something that hadn’t been given to us. We had to clean most of the dirtiness ourselves, because we could not spend seven days in a filthy flat, waiting for someone to clean it. When the two cleaners arrived, they started to shout at us, visibly angry, and they told us that the flat wasn’t dirty, it was due to the fact that it was old. We were really afraid because of the anger they showed towards us. Once we showed them photos of how dirty the flat was when we arrived and they compared them with how the flat was once we had cleaned the most part, they minded us and started to clean. They also offered us the possibility to change to another flat, but as we saw that it was equally dirty, we decided to stay in the first flat.
Moreover, I would like to point out that the flats are not safe at all, because anybody that has the key can open the main door, even if the key is inside the lock.
To sum up, we learned a lot of German and loved the classes, but we cannot recommend the accommodation they offer at all.
Dear Jimena,
We regret that you did not feel comfortable in your apartment and want to apologize for the state the apartment was in. We were quite surprised about the cleaning work, which has not be done as well as we had expected. We did of course talk to the companies we work with for cleaning and were trying to sort out how this happened and why they had not informed us earlier about the rooms’ conditions.
We will do our best so that such problems do not reoccur in the future. Sorry again for the inconvenience!
I really liked the experience in this Academy. The classes were useful and I felt very good with all teachers. I met a lot of people all over the world and this is just super. I want to do all of this another time because I learnt a lots.

We were around 8 students and we were from different countries so we had to talk to each other in English and that was great.
My house was very big and clean.
The school is well located and the building is new.
I stayed in Berlin just for one week so I don´t know anything about social activities that´s why I rated "social activities" with 3 stars.
We had super teachers, they were really qualified and interesting! So, in school there were a much outclass activities, but students, who had afternoon classes, couldn't visit they cause they started earlier then afternoon classes finished. And school isn't careful with our language level and you can be appeared in heigher level group (it's not bad for you, but bad for other students) or in low level group (it's boring)
Very good location!
Very good school. I was in a group with a very good teacher. The teacher was available to present the material and was interested in raising the level of knowledge.
I lived in a hostel and I was happy with everything there, including the location.
Very meager cultural events, I would like more excursions.
In general, everything is fine.
the Housing is HORRIBLE:
The room was not clean when I came in (I even found a spider net in the bathroom), the small size of it compared to what you announced when I booked ,the stuffed and dirty bath and the super noisy fridge.
Teachers are good and location is quiet central
The language academy made an effort to organize an external teacher to offer my individual danish classes. That was very good! Sadly, the e-mail conversation was frequently taking up a lot of time because of non-responsibility.

Show details » Read more...Teachers not so bad, but the organisation wasn't good. School not really internationnal, and the accomodation was horrible ! I don't recommand this school. No good activities, quite a lot of person in the classroom and sometime we were doing stupid things in the lesson. The school isn't really helpfull. The worst thing for me was the Hostel, so icky, not clean, i had to take a hotel for 2 night when I arrived !
Any way, for me it ia quite cheap but really not good.
Our teacher, Camille was very friendly and patient. The lessons were always conducted in a quiet atmosphere. We had a lot of fun when we watched an American series during the lesson. The rooms were well-lit and has a friendly atmosphere. My daughter felt good too. The school can be reached easily with public transport. We had a lot of good dialogues and information about the life in the USA.

There were lots of well explained grammar and opportunity to talk. My teacher ( Ana ❤️) was the best German teacher I've ever had compared to those I've had before. She motivated me so much not to give up on learning German. The school is well organised and the people were very kind and helpful. I stayed a bit far from the school but it was not a big problem. I had a lot of fun with the people there, learned a lot besides German and made some nice friends as well. The city has an amazingly good energy and keeps you positive all the time. I do recommend this course 100% and I can't wait to go back again!
