Course description

IELTS, or 'International English Language Testing System', is an international standardised test of English language proficiency. It is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, the British Council and IDP Education Pty Ltd, and was established in 1989.

There are two versions of the IELTS: the Academic Version and the General Training Version:

- The Academic Version is intended for those who want to enrol in universities and other institutions of higher education and for professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practice in an English-speaking country.

- The General Training Version is intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.

It is generally acknowledged that the reading and writing tests for the Academic Version are more difficult than those for the General Training Version, due to the differences in the level of intellectual and academic rigour between the two versions.

IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, Irish, New Zealand and South African academic institutions, over 2,000 academic institutions in the United States, and various professional organisations. It is also a requirement for immigration to Australia and Canada.

An IELTS result or Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two years.

In 2007, IELTS tested over a million candidates in a single 12-month period for the first time ever, making it the world's most popular English language test for higher education and immigration.

In 2009, 1.4 million candidates took the IELTS test in over 130 countries.

"Amazing, I improved my English skills more than what I expected"

Marianne Racine, student from Canada

The teachers are really kind and open minded. They’re pretty helpful and patient.

The location is great, there are a lot of thing to see closer because it’s in the town.

For the first day, if you didn’t look for more information other than the address, I think it’s kinds of difficult to find the school because it’s between building office on the third floor and they don’t really have visible warnings.

Otherwise, the school make midterm and final exams what’s more an oral presentation, it can be really a nervous moments but it’s a good way to learn, unfortunately..;)

otherwise, I spend my trip with an amazing homestay, they were very kinds and make me comfortable.

Finally, illingua is really a good school to learn and the price is really good.

However, if you want discover the real culture of Canada, for my part, I think Vancouver isn’t the best location owing to the fact that it’s multi-cultural. But all depends on you, if you really want improved you English skills you’ll do what you have to do.

"Great time!"

Maria

I spent three weeks in Vancouver studying at inlingua and it was the most exciting experience of my life, I can tell you for sure! There’s a perfect opportunity to learn English and you feel very comfortable here: there are lots of students from all over the world, lessons are interesting and you can also choose afternoon classes which are necessary exactly for you. Vancouver is a very nice and friendly city so it’s a great pleasure to live there. I lived in a homestay with another four students and they’re all from different countries – you just have no way out and speak, speak, speak English! Moreover, you can learn something from other languages. It’s absolutely impossible to stay apart from different events here; you can meet lots of people and make friends improving your language skills at the same time – brilliant, isn’t it?
