Study English in Oxford …
Study in Small Classes with Personal Support
During the academic year, our class size usually contains no more than 8 students—often half the size of groups at most other schools. CIE’s close family atmosphere throughout the academic year helps to make intensive study easier and much more pleasant.
Opportunities to socialise
During social activities, which we run twice per week, and Friday Conversation Cafe, students get opportunities to socialise, explore Oxford, British culture and learn about each other while at the same time practise their English in a relaxed environment. Read comments from our students .
Study in the City Centre
CIE’s Bocardo House is in the centre of Oxford, opposite the world-famous Oxford Union. Our busy summer school is also held in city centre facilities, such as Oxford University’s Lady Margaret Hall, near the University Parks.
Free Personal Tutorial
CIE students receive a free personal academic and welfare tutorials every four weeks. This enables them to see exactly which areas need improvement and how they can reach their goals faster. Together with the teacher they outline short-term and long-term study goals to work on. Welfare tutorials are there to ensure the students are happy with all aspects of their stay, from homestay to social life and personal wellbeing.

After finishing the course at CIE you might consider studying online. We offer a range of one-to-one classes with very experienced teachers. You can chose from General English, exam preparation, GCSE/ IGCSE or Maths & Science.

Our main location at Bocardo House is a typical city centre building in Oxford. Situated just opposite the Oxford Union in St Michael’s Street, Bocardo House
Our summer junior course and residential accommodation is located at Wychwood school in North Oxford.
I really liked CIE Oxford as the atmosphere was really welcoming and I felt very much at home though I only attended a one week intensive course of 25 hrs.
Great teachers who are very dedicated and everybody is highly motivated so I have fond memories of CIE and the lively discussions we had and the wonderful english literature class just to name a few.
In classes the environment was good because I was with some friends. The teachers were very nice and I found they taught very well. The location was perfect because as I was not an intern in the school and I lived in Keble College it's not too far from the school. Next I think the documents that the teachers had given to us were good because I understood what I had to do. But didn't like the bathroom because I found they were very dirty.
The activities were good but the last day I didn't know we were going to play to water fight and I was not dressed for that. Otherwise it was a really good experience and I recommend it.
Maybe the level of my class was too low for me. I got A2 certification but in my school I was B1. All what we worked in Cie have been revisions of what I knew already. I would have liked to work more on the past. The conditions of the test online are bad and do not reveal our exact level.
CIE is amazing!!
If you want to improve your English while having a lot of fun, this is the place to go.
What I appreciated the most was that everyone was so friendly and funny. The teachers teach you so much more than just grammar and vocabulary. You learn about the English culture and things, which you can really use in your everyday life in England.
Also the principals and secretaries are very nice and caring. Everyone talks to everyone, no matter what your level of English is. CIE also organised different activities and showed us the best places to go in Oxford.
In the winter months classes were quite small. That gives the teachers the chance to take care of each individual student. To me, CIE was like a family. We spent so much time together (during the lessons as well as after) that I could get to know the teachers and the other students really well. I've been visiting CIE and my host family four times since I've left England and they welcomed me back everytime as if it had been just yesterday when we last met.
The hostfamily that CIE organised for me was beyond anything I could have dreamed of. From the very first day they accepted me as a member of their family and I spent my time there talking to them or playing with their daughter. I could even join their families for Christmas Holidays and felt at the right place all the time.
At CIE I met people from all over the world and everybody was open and interested in the other cultures. I became very good friends with some of the other students that I have met a few times since and we’re planning to visit us some day in our homecountries. The time I spent with all these nice people at CIE opened up my mind and my heart and I hope I can maintain these friendships for a very long time.
I‘m very happy about my stay in Oxford with CIE. The teachers are all very nice and friendly. They helped me to improve my English skills and also prepared me perfectly for my Cambridge exam, which I will take in March. They are very good in teaching and explaining difficult things. They are also helpful with every struggle and they give good advice for activities or places to go. All of them will help you.
Also the different classes were good. We had a small amount of students at CIE when I was there, so that we didn't had big classes, which is in my opinion very useful.
The location of CIE is perfect. It is in the middle of the city and it’s very easy to get there with the public transport.
We had different activities, which taught us about the events or tradition from the British people. For example: the typical Sunday roast dinner.
The housing are very good. CIE organize everything and the host family welcome you very friendly. I had a nice family and the house and also the area where I lived for nearly two months was safe and good. Last year I had a little bit difficulties with my host mother, but it was no problem to change the family. I was very happy to change and I also was happy that CIE helped me.
I would always study again with CIE and I can recommend the school to everyone, who wants to learn english very well and fast.
