DIT teaches students from all over the world, including:
Since January 1981, under the motto “small is beautiful”, we’ve been offering German courses in very small groups in the world famous sport and holiday resort of Kitzbühel in the Tyrolean Alps.
Kitzbühel is an hour's drive from Salzburg and Innsbruck, and about an hour and a half's drive from Munich.
DIT is in Kitzbühel in Austria close to the border of Bavaria, South Germany. It is a small, ancient town in the west Austrian province of Tyrol, the mountainous part of Austria. It is internationally famous because of the annual World Championship Downhill Ski Race. Kitzbühel is also host to the Austrian Tennis Open Championships. The town itself is therefore well served by trains, buses, and roads, as well as being an attractive alpine town surrounded by mountains.
The school is set in a leafy suburb of the town, a 15-minute walk from the centre. This is a convenient location, with accommodation for students, supermarkets, a large sports equipment and clothing store, pubs, restaurants and a bank within 5-10 minutes walk. There are also tennis courts, golf courts and a riding school within walking distance from the school.
There are bus stops all over the town, taking skiers to the slopes. Our nearest bus stop is a three-minute walk from the school.
Classes were (almost) private because of the summer saison.
The teacher focuses on the things you need to learn.
Location is in a sports club building, but is okay.
Activities with the daughter of the teacher were great.
Climbing mountains, visiting a wildpark, drinking a beer or coffee together was a great way to learn the German language.
Housing with family Swidrak was great. Karin is a great hostess.
There was nothing I didn’t like.
Great experience.
In the morning the courses were held in a fun way and in a stimulating environment, and in the afternoon the city and its surroundings offered countless opportunities to spend the holiday.
In addition, the free offer by the school of three weekly meetings allows you to further improve the ability to deliver speeches in the language and to meet new people.

Morning German lessons with a very experienced teacher and skiing in the afternoon, what is not to like. Social events were also great.

The teachers are kind and understanding, and all in all good people. They also gave us general information about the area and what to do, where to go which was useful. I had a good time and would recommend to anyone wanting to learn or improve their German.

My experience at Entrasser Garni hotel was excellent, the hotel is small, very clean, excellent breakfast, but most of all the owners are ver kind and helpful.
The social activities in the afternoon were fine. I did not like that the place I had my classes was not clean, there were other people using it for other activities and left the place dirty.
Valentina, mu student advisor was always helpful and friendly.

Dear Elizabeth,
I am very pleased about your positive words about the Deutsch-Institut Tirol!!! It was also a pleasure to us to work, talk and be together with you.
All the best Hans
I had never formally studied German, prior to attending the school I did download a few language apps and study that for a few months. Therefore, I as a true beginner, so I was in the beginner class with 2 other students. Our instructor, Reiner could not have been more patient and kind. After two weeks I feel that my skills have really improved and I am going to continue to study on my own.
Hans organized fun outings for the group which gave us all a chance to practice our German. During my stay in Kitzbuhel I stated at Hotel Garni Enstrasser, which was also wonderful and just a few minutes walk to the school. I believe there were 9 or 10 other students that also stayed at Hotel Garni Enstrasser so that also enhanced the overall experience.
I enjoyed my time at Deutsch-Institu so much that I plan to go for another two weeks in 2020
At different stages of my life I have attended at least ten language schools, in eight different countries, studying four foreign languages. DIT is the benchmark against which I compare all the others and it stands way out in front.
I was over 50 when I began to learn German and was close to giving up when I came to DIT for the first time. It was as though my spinning wheels suddenly found traction. After two weeks I had not only made astonishing progress, but my confidence was transformed.
The small class sizes are a big factor, but I think the commitment and enthusiasm of the teachers are what makes the difference. They see that everybody gets plenty of air time and the conversation flows freely without interruption - errors are noted and only reviewed at the end. I think that is the best way to develop fluency. And somehow they manage to make even the awful German grammar into a stimulating challenge.
I came back year after year right up until my retirement. I am now working on getting my other foreign languages up to the same standard as my German. This year alone I have spent 4 weeks at the Sorbonne institute, and another 4 weeks at a private language school in Colombia. But I have yet to find any schools as effective as DIT.
Moreover: my 14 year-old son was really struggling with German at school. He was so bad that he was advised to drop it in order to focus on his other GCSE subjects. As a last-ditch effort I persuaded him to join me at DIT for two weeks one December (using the skiing opportunities as an incentive). Soon after he went back to school in January his German teacher phoned my wife to say he was now the best student in her class. His best grades at GCSE and A-level were in German, and he went on to study it at University.
That’s what I call effectiveness.
Wonderful teacher: enthusiastic about teaching, passionate about the German language, always positive. Hans knew the history/origin of the language, was particularly good at explaining grammar concepts and was able to adapt his way to teach on the need of the students.

I first studied at the Deutsch-Insitut in 1990. I have been back several times since then, most recently in 2017. What I most value is the opportunity for conversation in German and the chance to refresh my knowledge of German grammar. The instruction is not confined to the morning classes: it continues with afternoon visits to the lake, or to a coffee house in town.
