Looking to learn the basics of the captivating world of fashion? The Cut offers you a variety of two-week intensive workshops designed to maximize your industry knowledge within a minimum time frame. In these hands-on workshops, students will be immersed in all facets of the fashion business. In readings, lectures and class discussions, students are taught by industry professionals in small group settings, receiving first-class learning in a real-life business environment, using state of the art digital platforms as well as hands-on hard skill applications. Each class comprises of two levels at 16 hours per week, for a total of 32 hours. Pre-requisites for each class are outlined in each specific course. Acquire the skills you need to reach your academic and professional goals or complement your current full-time diploma or degree program, or simply build a competitive portfolio for graduate program applications to prepare for advanced study.
DIGITAL PATTERNMAKING – GERBER
This two-week introductory course examines the digital aspect of pattern making and grading using Gerber AccuMark Pattern Design software (V10). Under the guidance of industry professionals, students will receive hands-on instruction covering pattern creation, drafting, digitizing, plotting, knock offs, data conversion, technical specification sheets, and costing of markers.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of The Cut’s Pattern making Basic Two-Week Intensive course, or equivalent. Basic knowledge of sewing is required to understand how patterns are converted from paper to actual garments.

Practice digitizing
Learn how to manipulate blocks

The Cutting Room, owned by apparel and production expert, Liza Deyrmenjian, was born in Vancouver and is the result of 25 years in the fashion and apparel industry. The Cutting Room is where it all happens—ideation and design, pattern making, sourcing, sampling, and production. It is also where beginners and seasoned designers alike come together to better their skills and learn new ones with The Cutting Room’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Academy—The Cut. With one foot in Vancouver and the other in New York City, The Cutting Room supports established fashion and lifestyle brands, coaches up-starts, and teaches the next generation of makers and doers through The Cut’s array of fashion design courses.

Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Vancouver. These homes are often between 25 - 50 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
