The beautiful city of Merida is located in the northwestern part of the Yucatán Peninsula in southeastern Mexico. It was founded in 1542 by Francisco de Montejo and built on the Maya city of T'ho which had been a center of Mayan culture and activity for centuries. Nowadays Merida – also known as the „White City“ - is one of the most tranquil and safest cities in Mexico.
Our Spanish School is situated northeast of the historic center in the Las Brisas neighborhood. It`s a quiet and safe place, which not only ensure easy and fast access to many parts of the city but also offer a great variety of recreational and commercial sites, including parks, cafes, restaurants, shops and banks.
The school building itself is a typical Merida townhouse which retains much of the charm and intimacy of a family home. Our facilities consist of 4 bright indoor classrooms, all fully equipped and air-conditioned, 1 outdoor class in our tropical courtyard, a cafeteria and a terrace where students can relax during breaks between Spanish classes.
All our courses are designed to help students improve their Spanish focusing on the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. As we believe that communication is the key and the main reason for learning languages, our highly experienced and professional teaching staff concentrates on practical communication using innovative methodologies and technologies as well as meaningful materials related to real-life situations. In addition, we regularly arrange teacher guided excursions to encourage our students to speak and understand Spanish in different environments.

Our Spanish School is located in the beautiful and safe city of Mérida, in the heart of Yucatán Pninsula only 35kms away from the Gulf of Mexico coast. Our school building is strategically situated north east of Merida`s historic center in one of the most beautiful colonial neighborhoods of the city. It`s a quiet and safe place.
Had a great experience with Spanish Center Merída. The teachers were super nice. I booked a small group course, but as there were no students of my level at the time, I got private lessons. My teacher was so nice. She was very clear and she told me a lot about Merída and the Mexican culture in general, which was very interesting as I was planning to stay in Mexico for a few more weeks after the course. I also booked the homestay which I highly recommend. I stayed with such a nice lady who showed me around Merída on the first day and made me traditional mexican dishes every day. She also lived less then a 10 minute walk from the school, which was obviously very convenient. Overall a great experience.
Show details » Read more...I had a wonderful experience at the Spanish Center Mérida. I attended class for two weeks from 9a - 1p Monday through Friday. The teachers tailored the classes based on our skills and interests. In addition to learning the language, we also learned much about the local culture. Working with the teachers was like having conversations with friends. They were all great. The location worked well for me, as I stayed in an AirBnb within about a twenty minute walk. The school itself was very nice and comfortable.

Spanish Center Merida takes advantage of this wonderful setting with comfortable, homey learning facilities, a staff who is committed to your learning and a program that focuses on the individual needs of each student. We give the highest endorsement to Ketrin, Marta and Telma who made this entire experience fun and friction-free.

My teaching experience was better than anything I have had in the United States. I highly recommend going to the school and staying with Señora Leticia.

The classes were organized around a text book for foreigners learning Spanish which Jallet used very effectively.
The location, the facility and the activities were all excellent. It's funny, one activity was making guacamole which I'm entirely grateful for. I'll never eat commercial guacamole again!
Also the other instructors and manager were extremely helpful and not just with school. Thelma helped me organize a side trip to Chitchen Itza and Celestun, and at the end I had to modify my return to the US which required me using a local bus service. Jallet knew that that company would not take a US credit card. She let me use hers until I could get cash to pay her back. So, as you can imagine, I think the women to are Spanish Center Merida are VERY good at what they do.
Finally I feel quite confident to continue speaking Spanish and practicing Spanish because of my time at Spanish Center Merida. I recommend them very highly.
Sincerely,
Michael Kovach
I enjoyed my time at the Spanish Center Mérida. The teachers were all very kind and welcoming of me. They were all very helpful, and offered suggestions of activities to do around the city. I was able to get a lot of work done, even though I was only there for one week. The opportunity of making traditional dishes was very cool for me. I loved the Sopa de Lima! Very delicious. Mérida is a very lovely city and I would love to return someday.

My teacher was excellent, very patient and was attentive to what I needed as far as my weaknesses were concerned. The location is perfect being close to our residence. As for the activities they were held in a day to day fashion in relation to our particular needs. Thank you for the fruit tasting during the breaks and the nice and good cake to celebrate the end of the four-week session.
As for the housing, the food and the room and the atmosphere were all right up until a group of four misbehaved, impolite adolescents arrived making noise late at night, jumping in the beds as if it was trampolines etc. etc.
Spanish Center Merida is a great language school and I can recommend it to anyone! The teachers are very knowledgeable and the classes are flexible with a lot of room for customization. I had a mix between private and group classes, which I really liked. The school is conveniently located in Itzimná, close to several bus lines. Spanish Center Merida also organizes excursions and cooking classes. The school is very informal and the staff is friendly and accessible.
I took classes here for three months, and my Spanish improved significantly. I couldn't have done it without the great support of Spanish Center Merida!
The school has a pleasant atmosphere. The classes are small and intensive. The teachers are very committed. The location is close to the center in a quiet street. It can be easily reached by public transport. I did not use housing.

Break time was good to get to know new people and to have a chat; they helped me practice even though my Spanish was not very good.
I stayed there with a host family which was also a good experience. Tasty food, enjoyable conversation, cozy room (though a bit hot which is the case in Merida), and so on. You may have a hard time communicating with them if you speak only basic, but I'm sure they would be happy to help you.
I stayed in the school for just a week traveling on my way through Mexico, and obviously one week is not enough to improve the language skill dramatically. Still, it was nice being there and was a great start to studying Spanish!
At the beginning of a 4-week journey through Mexico and Guatemala, I wanted to review, practice and deepen my basic Spanish language skills. I am glad that I picked a private one-on-one course (10 hours) at the Spanish Center Mérida. The director picked me up at the airport and brought me to my landlady. My teacher was able to tune into my level, as well as my way of learning. Moreover, I spent many hours listening to and talking with the open-minded and very welcoming lady who hosted me. Her house was walking distance from the school, which was very convenient. Both the school and her place are in a safe, middle-class neighborhood. I am not aware of any social activities I could have taken part in, but to be honest I did not miss them. My schedule, which was flexible, allowed for first outings in and around Mérida.

The Spanish classes were suitable for my level and the teachers took care in teaching me Spanish. The classes were much fun and I learned a lot during my 2-week course. I am going to study in Merida for one year and will continue my classes at Spanish Center Merida. It is a very comfortable and friendly environment to learn a new language in. The rooms are nice and the pool in the backyard helps to refresh your mind after some hours of studying.
I can definitely recommend Spanish Center Merida!
Classes - Classes were good. Lots of individual attention, which was nice, yet I also signed up for group classes. I wish I would have been advised prior to coming that there would not be any other students for a group class.
Teachers - While I liked the idea of having two different teachers, one was definitely better at teaching than the other. I got a bit frustrated with the teacher of the "conversational" class, because I did not feel like it was necessarily a conversation - it was more of a lecture. She was not a trained teacher and you could tell. The other teacher was great. I had been told that I would have to switch this teacher for a different one, but was glad I didn't have to after I told the director of my concern.
Housing - Excellent! Dona Alicia was fabulous, and her house was only a 10 minute walk to the facility.
Everyone was so nice and welcoming. I rated the school "average" because of the frustration I had with the one teacher, and the fact I did not get to participate in a group class as I had expected.
I took one week of classes for 3 hours daily. The following week I took classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 3 hours each day. I enjoyed the classes. With the exception of the first day Erika was my teacher. She was well-prepared, interested in me as a student who already had some fluency in Spanish and able to build on my fluency. She encouraged me to read in Spanish. I was the only student. I would have enjoyed having other students at my level in the class.
The facilities met my needs: water, bathroom, fan in the classroom, room size and suitable chairs and table. The atmosphere of the school was positive and tranquil. I liked the trip to Mayapan especially having an archaeologist who is also a language teacher. The location is on the bus route from my accommodation; however, taking the bus was awkward for me. I was living in Merida when I registered for classes; therefore, I did not require arrangements for housing.
The school is in an excellent location, the teachers are wonderful and the whole experience is not only educational and productive, but it is fun! The price is excellent value for your money and one that I would recommend to anyone considering learning Spanish. The school offers far more than I ever dreamed and everyday was a wonderful experience. We had wonderful accommodations and extremely well priced and located. On a scale of 1 to 10 my experience was a 12! I've been there twice now and I will go back again, God willing! I'm trying to figure out how to get my friends to attend so we can share this positive productive experience together!

What I liked best was that I could learn not only Spanish but also the Mexican culture. I went to the museum, took a walk, cooked and so on. These were good experiences for me. If the signal of Wi-Fi becomes stronger, the school will be perfect, I think.
